Review: Ginza Tendon Itsuki

I’ve long heard about the long queue at Ginza Tendon Itsuki so I got myself prepared for that before heading there.

Guess it was our lucky day. My lunch date and I reached there at about 11.55am and there were only 2 persons in the queue. The queue after us started to form really long shortly after we were seated.

The staff came by to ask for the number of pax in our group. Priority will be given to customers with the presence of all members.

Though I’ve been wanting to try the tendon here, I’ve got to admit that I didn’t make any research prior to our visit today.

And so…The staff came to take our order while we were in the queue.

Staff: “Special or Vegetables”?

Me: “Excuse me, may I know what’s Special?” :p

Luckily, the staff was very patient in explaining the differences between the two to us.

So this is the Special… Comes with Tempura prawn, vegetables, chicken and egg.

Chawanmushi and miso soup are also part of the set.

And this is the Vegetables Don, basically all vegetables, and it’s just a dollar difference compared to the Special Version.

Well basically, these are what they offer in their menu, it’s either Special or Vegetables, simple as that. ?

In view of the current haze situation, the restaurant staff was very kind to offer surgical face mask to all the patrons who were in the queue.
However, no one seems to take up the offer.
Anyway, thumbs up for the sweet gesture! Even though it’s not N95 mask. It’s really the thoughts that count. ?

A pretty compact setup..Total capacity was around 24 pax I guess..

Other than the counter seats, there are three small tables.

We were pretty lucky to be allocated with their biggest table that could accommodate four pax.

The guy on the right is a Japanese chef, there were two other chef who seems to be local.

The chawanmushi was really good, love the texture. ?

You may help yourself with the pickles if you Iike them..

Here comes our Special Tempura Don! ?

The portion was really big, very very satisfying indeed. ??

The egg managed to score another brownie point!

Still good even though the yolk wasn’t as runny as I expected it to be.

Oh I almost forgot to mention this… You may also help yourself to this bottle of tendon sauce.

I reckon this must be their secret weapon.

It’s not salty, simply flavourful. I don’t have an extreme savoury taste but I’ve lost count of the number of dashes I’ve added to my tendon. ?

And one more point  to take note, their ocha is not refillable. It’s $3.80 each.

I only got to know this when I requested for my tea to be refilled. The staff simply replied me that it’s not refillable.

Okay, point noted.

Would have been good if that staff could be more proactive by adding on to ask me if I would like to order another cup of tea. I would have order it cos I was feeling rather thirsty then. Must be that tendon sauce lol

Last but not least,  you may wish to bring along a hair fragrance and perfume, cos you’ll smell like you have been fried after the meal. ?

Anyway, it’s definitely a very awesome and satisfying meal. I will definitely be back again! ?
